Dr Colin Ridyard
Senior Research Governance & Polic
Overview
Colin is a Research Officer in Health Economics at the Centre for Health Economics & Medicines Evaluation at Bangor University. He is currently working on two joint studies with Liverpool University Cancer Trials Unit (RIAltO and PACIFICO) and is on the Trial Steering Committee for a third hip surgery trial (HipHOP). A researcher with over ten-years’ experience, Colin has worked on two joint paediatric studies with Liverpool University Clinical Trials Research Centre (SCIPI and CATCH). The CATCH study was also done in conjunction with University College London Institute of Child Health. Colin’s particular field of interest lies in the application of hospital episode statistics data to health economic evaluations. He has also worked on the construction and design of the DIRUM database – a repository of resource-use questionnaires for trial-based economic evaluations. This project has Bangor as the lead partner in collaboration with the Universities of Bristol, Birmingham, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and London School of Economics and Political Science. An R&D Chemist by training, Colin has spent sixteen years in the chemical industry working with active pharmaceutical ingredients and more recently, five years in the North West Wales NHS Trust Finance Department as a Modernisation Officer working on amongst other things, resource use databases. He obtained his degree from NEWI Deeside in 1991 and his PhD from the University of Exeter in 1996.
Grant Capture (including title and brief summary of Project)
Colin has worked with Professor Dyfrig Hughes to secure funds from the Medical Research Council Network of Hubs for Trial Methodology Research (MRC HTMR) to compile a Database of Instruments for Resource Use Measurement (DIRUM). The aim of the DIRUM project is to create a practical, open-access database of resource-use questionnaires for use by trial health economists.
