Project Summary

Survival of preterm infants has markedly improved with modern developments in neonatal care, however, it is recognised that these infants mat still have adverse long-term respiratory outcomes into childhood and beyond.

The RHiNO study consists of two parts:

  1. A screening of a cohort of preterm-born (< 34 weeks gestation) to identify the prevalence on reduced lung function
  2. A trial to assess if 12 week treatment with bronchodilator and/or anti-inflammatory modifies the underlying mechanisms and/or improves airway obstruction
